Ash Wednesday at St Mary’s.
With the reduction in COVID restrictions, celebrating Ash Wednesday in a more customary manner was especially important for our school community, being the start of the most important season in the Church’s year - Lent.
Being a Catholic school, this day is important as it offers all students an opportunity to mark the start of their participation in the three core expectations during Lent, being: Prayer – Fasting – Almsgiving.
Year 9 students accompanied our school’s Chaplaincy Co-ordinator to the 10.00am Mass at St Mary’s, our parish church, where they also received Ashes. For the rest of the school, we were grateful to Frazer, a seminarian attached to the parish, who distributed Ashes to students and staff at lunchtime. It was impressive that so many members of our school community took advantage of the opportunity to receive Ashes on their foreheads on this special day.
