Empower Me at St Mary's

Empower Me is a session run after school each Wednesday which is open to all year groups. Here you come to talk and write about your dreams, aspirations, and goals and how to achieve them with timelines.

The session encourages students to uncover who they really are in terms of their identity and how they can build on their character; harness good habits in order to become who they want to be; and, be able to do what they need to do in order to have what they want in life.

It’s a place where we talk about the mistakes, challenges, and limitations we created for  ourselves, and think of what we can do to overcome them - one step at time.

It’s a place where we discuss about not allowing other people’s opinions to create our reality, or to allow the past to shape our future, as old things have passed away and all things have become new.

We talk a lot about a positive growth, and also fixed, limited and negative mindsets, Just as we feed our body with the right food, we need to feed our minds and spirits with the right things in terms of music, TV, social media, books, and especially the friendships we keep

In a nutshell, ‘Be—Do—Have’. It’s a lifelong journey and the Empower Me sessions are  a safe place for all, with no judgements - and it can get emotional sometimes!

One Year 11 student writes: ‘Empowering me helped me express my true feelings about how I felt, and boosted my confidence and self-worth. It helped me achieve some of my goals, motivated me, and reassured me about my uniqueness.’
