Great St Mary’s Bake Off kicks off in style!

The inaugural Great St Mary’s Bake Off was held on Wednesday 19th January. Contestants were tasked with making chocolate brownies and were given an array of additions to make their brownies stand out in taste, texture, and appearance, in order to be crowned Star Bakers.

Miss Garrett writes: It was a close race between many of the bakers, with Kate and Kaychanel (9P) producing delicately decorated brownies that were gooey and rich, without being overpowering. Renee and Ariana (9P) artfully designed their brownies, and the taste matched the impressive and expert look. However, it was Hannah and Luchia from 8T who snatched the prize from their hands. Their chocolatey, flavoursome brownies pipped the others to the post thanks to their addition of raspberries, which added a tartness that cut through the chocolate to create a fruity and powerful flavour.

Honourable mentions go to the rest of the bakers, in no particular order: Mikey (8J), Tasha (8T), Nhyira (7B), Maryln (7J), Calvin (7J), Cintia (7P), Rebeca (7P), Arsama (7T), Alyssa (8P), Victoria (7P).

A huge thank you to Aghogho, Gavin, Jordan and Ore from 11P who supported Miss Garrett in organising, baking and taste testing during the competition. Another thank you to Miss Darko, Mr Owen and Mr Kelly for their support with tasting and tidying!

This will be a regular feature of the after-school Baking Club, with students across the school encouraged to join in.
