St Mary's Catholic High School

St Mary’s Inspection Reports Published

We are delighted to report that, within days of each other, both reports from our recent inspections have been published, to great acclaim. In November, Ofsted carried out a Section 8 Inspection, closely followed in December by the equally important Diocesan Section 48 Inspection.

Mr Shields wrote to all parents on 20th January:

In the Autumn term we welcomed two inspection Teams: Ofsted, and the Diocesan (Catholic) Inspection. I believe both inspections were fair and that they identified the unique personality of our school. I am delighted to attach both reports for you to read.

As a school that has a proud and unbroken record of service to the local Croydon community for 170 years, we are delighted that St Mary’s has been judged to be ‘Outstanding’ for Catholic Life by the Diocesan Inspection Team.

The opening line from our Ofsted report sums up the great work here “St Mary’s Catholic High School is a deeply caring community. Its pupils and staff live up to their core values of being welcoming, serving others, and working hard”. With the challenges of C-19, and a more rigorous inspection regime, it is especially pleasing that both reports reflect that St Mary’s students are Happy, Safe, and Achieving levels that are right for them. Our overall judgement remains ‘Good’.

You have placed your trust in us to educate and care for your children. The content of these reports clearly shows that the school is repaying that trust in both the quality of teaching and pastoral care available to all students.

Like every living entity, schools will always have areas for development, and I agree with the recommendations that are made in both reports and I will, with the staff here, redouble our efforts to continue the journey to Outstanding in all areas, and to be the first school of choice for local families.
